Updated 4th September 2023
The DI Nick Dixon Crime Series is best read in order, not only for the development of the characters, which I have always intended should progress over the whole series, but also because the books follow on in close chronological order.
Having said that, each book is a standalone thriller and can be read in isolation. A few loose ends from the previous book are tied up at the start of the next but the substantive story starts and finishes in the one book. Either way, I hope you enjoy them!
If you are intending to read the whole series, first of all, thank you! Secondly, here is a list of the current titles in order:-
- As The Crow Flies
- Head In The Sand
- Kickback
- Swansong
- Dead Level
- Death Sentence
- Heads or Tails
- Dead Lock
- Beyond the Point
- Down Among the Dead
- Dying Inside
- Carnival Blues
- Death Message (OUT NOW!)
- From the Ashes (#amediting)
To find them on Amazon.co.uk, please click here and on Amazon.com, please click here
Regards to all,
Damien.
Hello Damien,
Been very much enjoying your series on my wife’s superseded tablet (and her Kindle account!). I read As The Crow Flies a few months back in paperback – now hooked on the rest (in order, naturally). Usual unputdownability/sleepless early mornings comment… In Berrow churchyard many years ago I spotted and memorised this extraordinary name on a gravestone: Wolff Egmont Lamoral Seckondorff Pocock. About to embark on Dead Level.
As a teenager I lived in Eastertown – the outline of the Mendips was visible from my bedroom window – and the distant lights of the Webbington Country Club near where the A38 entered the hills – sadly, I never got to see any of the Exotic Dancers they advertised in the Weston Mercury to tempt customers in….. Sometimes I cycled around the roads of Lympsham, Brent Knoll, Berrow, Burnham of an evening. My sister was married at Burnham church. One schoolfriend lived in Burnham and one at Yatton – we all met at Weston Boys’ Grammar School.
I used to watch the Travelling Post Office train speed by. somewhere between Brent Knoll and Uphill cutting. There were mornings when my mother would wake me, make a cup of tea, then take me to Brent Knoll station (just a platform) to make a request stop to catch the one statutory train per day that stopped there towards Weston, Yatton and Bristol, with chums joining me on the way for a day out trainspotting somewhere. When Brent Knoll signal box was demolished, I rescued one of the charred wooden roof finials from the remains of the fire – I still have it.
Very best wishes and thanks for all the pleasure you clearly afford so many people…

Hello Jonathan
Thank you for your message and I’m glad you’re enjoying the books.
I’m delighted to be bringing back such happy memories!
With best wishes,
Damien
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your books, but in particular, carnival blues. I was involved in carnival in my youth and have a fond memories. It is a truly unique show. The idea that carnival plays a role in a novel is brilliant, and the reference to squibbing is great.
All the books are very well researched but there was one point I wanted to raise which is that the third carnival in the running order is Weston, not north petherton, which the author quoted. Page 135. North petherton is the fourth carnival on Saturday.
Thanks for writing about carnival in a fiction novel available around the world for everyone to read.
Hello Rich,
Thank you for your comment and I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the series so far. Plenty more to come…
I knew about the running order but took a bit of a liberty with it, I’m afraid. We’ll have to put it down to ‘poetic licence’!
With best wishes,
Damien
Love reading these novels, Carnival Blues has to be a favourite as I live in North Petherton and the carnival is such a big event in our year, a time when the family get together and have such a fantastic evening.
Please don’t stop writing about Nick Dixon I have a picture of him in my mind……. 😊
Thank you, Elaine. Glad you enjoyed Carnival Blues!
Lots more to come from Nick, Jane and Monty…
With best wishes,
Damien
Just finished Carnival Blues – brilliant! Have now read all 12 Nick Dixon novels in order having discovered them during lockdown. Can’t wait for the next one! Love the development of the characters. Please keep them coming, Damien!
Thank you, Phil. Most kind!
Plenty more to come…
With kind regards
Damien
Love it when the next in the Nick Dixon series is released. Coming from the west country it adds another level to the story when you can picture the places as you are reading.
Long may this series continue!
thankyou
Thank you, Janice!
Plenty more to come…
With best wishes,
Damien
Like all readers I can’t wait for book number 13. The problem is I will read it too quickly and will be anxious for book 14
Brilliant books
Thank you, Rosemary!
Best wishes,
Damien
Really enjoying this series of crime books having recently discovered you via Kindle.
Thank you, Sally!
Plenty more to come…
Best wishes,
Damien
Lived in BOS for 15 years now live in Central Finland, reading your books has brought back memories of my childhood. They are a joy to read! Thanks and keep them coming.
Thank you, Steven. Most kind!
Plenty more to come…

Just finished Dying Inside. As usual another wonderful read.
Now waiting for Carnival Blues.
Keep it up Damien. It is a great series of books
Thank you, Bob!
Best wishes,
Damien
Hi Damien
I started reading your books a few months ago and they are so addictive…
Everyone is well written and I have had many a late night, not being able to put them down!
From someone in the job and a husband that works at Hinkley, I almost feel like the characters are real.
Thank you so much for restoring my faith in crime fiction.
Can’t wait for the next book.
Jennie
Thank you, Jennie! Most kind 🙂
With best wishes,
Damien
Hello Damien,
Your books were recommended to me shortly before Christmas, 2020. I received books 3 4 5 6 at Christmas. I finally sourced 1 and 2 by late January. I had read them both within 10 days and was totally hooked so books 7 to 10 ordered and all now read. Many books that I have read, pick up the next book immediately one is finished. It has often taken that long to read just the one. What a page turner you have produced and all the settings are real. I already have withdrawal symptoms waiting for the next instalment.
Thank you, Valerie. Glad you enjoyed them!
The next one – Dying Inside – is out on 22nd June, so not long to go now.
Plenty more to come too…
With best wishes,
Damien
I’ve just finished the 10th book – having grown up just outside Bridgwater I love all the little West Country details – it’s so great to be able to really picture where you are talking about! I’ve been binge reading the series during these long lockdown days. I can’t wait for the next one, thank you so much for a great series!
Thank you, Hannah. Most kind! Glad you enjoyed them.
Best wishes,
Damien
I am really enjoying your books during 2020.
Great characters, plots, locations all them are the down-to-earth threads that makes the reader think “that could be me”. Like Monty fooling Nick and Jane into feeding him twice, having pub food to avoid the faff of cooking and many other “asides” like Jane saying “clear behind” when Nick is reversing. It puts the reader right there in the back seat.
Brilliant writing. Thank you.
Thank you for your kind comments, Sarah! I’m glad you’re enjoying the books.
Monty is the star of the show!
With best wishes for 2021,
Damien
Thank you for this series, it has kept me sane during lockdown. I am eagerly awaiting 11 and 12 and hoping there may be a few more after that. If I am ever unfortunate enough to have someone I care about murdered I certainly hope there is a Nick Dixon on the case.
My pleasure, Marie, and thank you for your kind comments.
Yes, there are plenty more to come, fear not!
With best wishes,
Damien
About to start book 10. One of the few authors that both my husband and I read and look forward to the next book. Heads or Tails is an absolute favorite. All the characters are so well drawn I can see them. And the descriptions of the UK countryside make us a little homesick (we moved to USA a few years ago).
Whenever someone asks for a crime novel, I am happy to recommend the Nick Dixon series.
Happy writing
Thank you very much, Lynne. Glad to bring you a reminder of home!
With best wishes,
Damien
Hi Damien,
So pleased to get audible and reading book 10.
Didn’t realise it was out.
I was thinking of not downloading the audible version as I always loved Napoleon reading, but I have actually enjoyed the narration.
Another great book, I have missed Dixon and Jane…
Can’t wait for the next one..
Thank you for making my leisure time less boring.
Debbie
My pleasure, Debbie! Glad you enjoyed it.
Best wishes,
Damien
Hi Damien
I’ve really enjoyed reading all 10 books during lockdown. I’ve certainly rediscovered my love for reading and am thirsty for ND11.
I’m certainly no expert but book 1 felt like a first novel although I was so impressed with the way that you painted the pictures of my characters in my head. The books that followed just got better and better. My favourite character serialisation ever, bar none.
PS I also really enjoy your infrequent Instagram posts, you just need to post more!
Best wishes
Sandra
Thank you, Sandra! Glad you enjoyed them.
Working on book 11 at the moment, hence the reduction in Instagram posts.
Plenty more to come…books and photos!
With best wishes,
Damien
Thank you so very much for each and every book. I have all 10 and have now read each one three times. Like the reader above you are now my favorite writer.
I would love to visit the places you have described but I am afraid that if I left I wouldn’t be able to return to my family and not because of the virus. As you know we are living in the darkest of times and it is impossible not to worry constantly about our future. Your stories help me manage so very much. You write so beautifully!!!
Thank you so very much,
Barbara Hodges
Thank you for your message and for your kind comments, Barbara!
I’m glad the books have helped to take your mind off the troubling times we are living in. I know how you feel; I spend far too much time watching rolling news on the TV and wondering what’s going to become of us all.
Stay safe!
With best wishes,
Damien
Damien, you are a literary genius!
The Nick Dixon Series is amazing I finished all of them (so far) in 3 weeks. I was hooked!
The innovative way you bring the stories to life and the twists and turns grips you.
I can’t wait for the next books.
Thank you, Duane! Glad you enjoyed the books.
Plenty more to come…
With best wishes,
Damien
Damien,
I bought the set of nine books last month on Amazon (Kindle versions). Finished #8 last night and started on #9 right away. Love them!
As I am in the US, I often consult Google Maps to see where “we” are, and look up the acronyms and titles which differ from American terms. Really enjoying my education.
Thanks!
Steve
Thank you, Steve. Glad you’re enjoying them!
With best wishes,
Damien
Hello Mr. Boyd!
You are now officially my favorite author. I have never claimed a favorite until now. Your Nicholas Dixon series is phenomenal. I love your writing style because you made me feel like I knew Nick and Jane. I read all the books in a month because I couldn’t put them down. So, because of you I lost a bit of sleep :-)S. I am so happy to see you are writing another book in the series! I cannot wait to read it. I for one am very happy you decided to become an author because you are a natural. Happy writing!
Susan Burton
Thank you for your kind comments, Susan. I’m glad you enjoyed the books!
Sorry about the lost sleep. Hope you’ve caught up now.
Plenty more to come…
With best wishes,
Damien
This series of books are the best page turners I have read in a long time. Ashamed to say I found them by accident which was great reading wise as had a book fest reading 1 to 9 non stop. Now for book 10 to appear……. soon
Thank you, Gwen. Most kind!
Book 10 – Down Among the Dead – is on the way and should be out on 6th May 2020.
With best wishes,

I have read all the series so far and tonight have actually eaten in The Red Cow as a friend of mine owns it! Readers if you like good pub food and want to eat in the pub featured in these books then you must visit The Red Cow.
Pete Levine.
Look forward to pre ordering and on my wish list…… roll on May
Thank you, Gwen. Hope you enjoy it when the time comes!
Best wishes,
Damien
I discovered your wonderful DI Dixon by chance having tried another series of books by another author whom I quickly tired of. Terrible plots and implausible story lines.
I have read all the books in order and am delighted to see that be the next one is due soon.
Keep up the great work.
Thank you for your kind comments, Dom. I’m glad you’re enjoying the series.
I hope you enjoy Down Among the Dead when the time comes!
With best wishes,
Damien
I totally agree. I was looking for a good book and boy did I find one or nine. Once you start it is impossible to put down resulting in many very late nights and early mornings. I can’t wait for the next one. who needs sleep when you have books like this to read.
Thank you, Cherie! Most kind.
Best wishes,
d
Congratulations Damien! Thanks for great books 1-9, you had me hooked at book 1 and I am so looking forward to reading book 10. I really like your characters, they are such ordinary people that take extraordinary risks.
Glad you enjoyed them, Robin, and thank you for your kind comments.
With kind regards
d
Hi Damien. Just finished books 1 to 9. I have enjoyed them immensely and can’t wait for book 10.
Thank you, Bob. Most kind!

Thank you, Tanya! I’m glad you enjoyed them.
Yes, plenty more to come. I’ve got the wedding pencilled in for book 19…

Hi Damien,
Wedding!? Book 19?! I do hope you’re not teasing us all!
I’ve been saving Beyond The Point, which I’ve started reading tonight – I’ll be finished in no time. I can’t stop reading your books once I’ve begun.
Looking forward to the wedding and beyond!
Keep up the great work.
Kind regards
Jason
Thank you, Jason! I hope you enjoy it.
Best wishes,
d
Have just binged the first eight books, feeling very naughty. I especially loved the reference to areas such as the Somerset coal canal as this was the area that my paternal ancestors lived, Wellow, Stoney Littleton, Camerton, Foxcote. I now live in Australia but fortunately am visiting my son, who lives in Wiltshire, in September . We will make a point of visiting and walking in those areas. We also climbed Dunkery Beacon on a visit a couple of years ago, which really made the stories come alive.
Thank you so much for creating your exciting and heart stopping books; I believe they would also make for a fantastic TV series, although I personally always prefer to read a book.
Congratulations on creating such plausible characters and incredibly exciting dramas,
Thanks Sue.
Thank you for your kind comments, Sue! I’m glad you enjoyed the books.
A TV series certainly would be fun.
With best wishes,
Damien
Hi Damien
Only ‘discovered’ Nick and Jane and the ‘force’ in the SW. I’ve read all 8 book available and eagerly waiting for no. 9. You’re incredibly talented writing detective thriller genre. Each of the characters whether a ‘goody’ or a ‘baddy’ are wonderfully brought to life, as are the settings, ( you have a bit of an advantage having lived there) still not easy to do. The research and actively seeking out real life experiences such as the caving also helps to bring the story and background alive on the page . You are a credit to literature! Sending my affection to yourself and family ( including your lovely dogs)
Carol Dawson
Northwest England
Thank you very much, Carol! I’m glad you enjoyed the books and am most grateful to you for your kind comments.
It certainly does help having lived where the books are set. When I sit down to write, it feels like going home…and spending time with old friends too, of course.
It’s lovely to know that you enjoyed reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them!
Thank you again for getting in touch and I do hope you enjoy Beyond the Point when the time comes.
With very best wishes,
Damien
Hello Damien,
I’m a late starter with your books but I’m enjoying them immensely. The local references are very accurate. As a boy during the 1960s I lived in Burnham so it’s fun to revisit all my haunts!
May I ask if you were schooled in Burnham? If you were, you’re in eminent company with the current Attorney General!
Cheers,
Duncan
Thank you for your kind comments, Duncan. I’m glad you enjoyed the books!
Yes, schooled in Burnham. I was as St Dunstan’s 1974 to 1979. My family lived in Herbert Road.
Writing the books brings back such happy memories too.
With best wishes,
Damien
Thank you Damien. Your books are so well researched.
Ann
Hi Damien,
I’m not generally a huge reader but this series of books has me hooked. Read the first towards the end of a holiday late last year and am now reading Dead Level after working my way through them in order.
Fantastic read, can’t wait to get home to finish it off !!
Keep up the good work.
Thank you, Paul. Most kind. Glad you’re enjoying them and long may it continue!
Just getting going with number 10 now…plenty more to come…

Perth to Sydney must be one hell of a drive…
Already working on book 10 and plenty more to come!

Hi, I came across Kickback first as it had horses in it and I’m a keen equestrian. When I realised it was number 3 in a series and was set near where I had been on holiday some years ago (Curry Rivel) I held off and read 1 & 2 first! Glad I did as I’ve now just finished Dead Lock and can’t wait to find out more about Nick, Jane, Monty and the rest of the characters in 9 & 10. Oh, I’m also keen to go back to Somerset for a holiday – not rick climbing or canal boating though lol x
Glad you enjoyed them Lisa!
If you don’t fancy climbing or canal boating, I can recommend caving…
Plenty more to come too.
With best wishes and thank you for your kind comments,
Damien
Hi Damien,
I have just finished reading the complete set of books, could not put them down.
Enjoyed all the references to Somerset and adjacent areas. Especially the Kennet and Avon Canal in book 8 as I have walked the full length from Avon Mouth to Reading, and have stayed in the site .
Look forward to book 9 and many more.
Going back to the start to re-read the lot again.
Ray
Thank you very much for your kind comments, Ray! I’m glad you enjoyed the books.
Yes, plenty more to come…
With best wishes,
Damien
Hi Damien
Never really read books until I retired a little early from teaching to care for my wife. I came across your books on Amazon and have now read all so far, just finished Dead Lock now. Fantastic reads and I love the characters and the pace of all your books. Hard to put them down. Yours have always taken priority but I love as well Faith Martin, Sarah Flint, Lisa Regan, and Mark Billingham obviously! Between you all, oh and Peter May, you make my retirement so worth living! Can’t wait for the next one and thank you.
Thank you, Neil. Glad you enjoyed them!
Plenty more to come. Beyond the Point – book 9 – is in production now and due in May next year. I’m just getting going with number 10 too.
With very best wishes,
Damien
Spending the night in Burnham on our journey to the deep South. My wife has just complained. “We have been here for two hours and not seen a dead body yet”.
I think it was tounge in cheek, but if not, please pass my details to Nick Dixon. 🙂
Iain
Hope you enjoyed your visit, Iain! And that you survived the night…
With best wishes,
Damien
Hi Damien,
Came across your books at Hurleys in Burnham and thought I’d give them a go! Absolutely hooked and have read all eight now. Up there with the best British crime thrillers, for me, Reg Hill and Peter Robinson. Like Dalziel and Pascoe and DCI Banks, Nick Dixon will be great on tv! Roll on number 9!
Many thanks
Stewart
Thank you, Stewart. Glad you enjoyed them.
A series on the TV would be great fun, but it’s a bit of a minefield as I’m finding out. Maybe one day!
Just finishing number 9 now, with plenty more in the pipeline.
With best wishes,
Damien
Amendment to my previous comment where I said I’d just finished book 7 I ment book 8 DeadLock
Glad you enjoyed them, Trudy. Pleased to learn they help to while away long hours behind the wheel! I do love an audiobook on a long journey too.
Plenty more to come as well!
Drive carefully and best wishes,
Damien
Hi Damien
Have been listening to your books care of Amazon Audible, really enjoyed all the books and because I’m a lorry driver I spend many hours travelling not keen on constant music or radio but your books and the story lines I find very enjoyable and make my journeys a lot easier and I find I’ve got to my destination quicker than I realize.
Have just finished book 7 today so looking forward to the next one, keep up the great work
Hi Damien,
I’ve written on here a couple of times now… Aaah! Stalker!
I’ve recently bought my first home with my fiancée, with a nice view from my balcony. I’ve been saving Dead Lock until we’re moved in and I can enjoy Nick’s next adventure, relaxing on the balcony. I read that 10, 11 & 12 are in the pipeline? Can’t wait. Although I am a little gutted the next book isn’t out until spring next year. Anyway, I really just wanted to say keep up the amazing writing, absolutely loving the series! All your books have a home on my new bookcase, despite the digital age taking over.
All the best!
Thank you for your kind comments, Jason.
And congratulations on buying your first home. I do hope you enjoy Dead Lock, sitting on the balcony, preferably with a beer I trust!
With best wishes,
Damien
Hi Damien. Have just read all eight books one after another, my wife is now on the seventh. Can’t wait for number 9. Are there any plans to sell your books anywhere else like Tesco’s or Sainsbury’s. Just to let you know you are up there with my favourite authors, Lee Childs. Michael Connelly. Linwood Barclay
Hello Kevin
Thank you for your kind comments and I’m glad you are both enjoying the books. To be mentioned in the same sentence as Lee Childs, Michael Connelly and Linwood Barclay…most kind!
You can usually order them through good bookshops, but I don’t think there are any plans for supermarkets. Sorry.
Lost more to come though.
With best wishes,
Damien
Just finished Dead Lock, loved
It! The Dixon series is my favorite. Can’t wait for your next one. When can it be expected?
Hi Deborah,
Thank you for your kind comments and I’m glad you enjoyed Dead Lock!
I’m working on book 9 now. The working title is ‘Beyond the Point’ and it’s due out next May, all being well.
Books 10, 11 and 12 are ready in outline too 🙂
With best wishes,
Damien
Hi Damien
Have just finished reading no 7 in the series of DI Nick Dixon will be ordering no 8 any day now.
Keep up the good work, enjoying the series very much.
Thank you, Neil!
Hi Damien,
Only discovered your fantastic books a few weeks ago from a
Trailer on Amazon….just bought one….completely hooked….immediately bought all the others…..not a lot of housework has been done since 😂 anyway the weather is far too hot !!!
We live a few hundred yards from where Nick hadn’t remembered to check his insulin…hit a car… and Jane had to get something sweet from the post office…..the fact that we also walk our dog on Burnham beach…..we almost live each story!!
Thank you again for many hours of great stories.
Gina
Hi Gina
I do hope you enjoy the rest of the series! Living locally, you may find you recognise some of the people in them too…
Give me a dog and beach…I’m like Nick in that respect, I think. We don’t ask for much in life!
With very best wishes,
Damien
Hello Damien 🙂 I should jolly well hope #9 is on it’s way, I’m suffering withdrawals!
Here’s the feedback I left you for #8. Normally I don’t chase down authors – simply because they are busier than I am but this is different.
Well, I now know about the lost canals in Somerset and I’ve learned about windlasses and have even become familiar with the Somerset roadways, towns and villages. how I’d love to walk up the Somerset Coal Canal and find out more about ‘Nat’.
it’s just a pity I live in Tasmania and turn 79 next week or I’d have had the pleasure of driving down from somewhere in the UK to experience your novels personally.
I have loved this series so much, have learned a lot more about all sorts of things and at the same time been entertained and mystified and find myself growing more and more attached to the people involved. I’m going to miss them until the next book arrives.
Hello Carolyn
Thank you very much indeed for your kind comments and I’m glad you enjoyed the books!
Yes, the Somerset Coal Canal is a lovely spot. Have you tried Google Earth? That’s fun.
I’ve had a lady get in touch who specialises in genealogy and she’s very kindly going to have a go at finding out about Nat. Watch this space!
Lots more to come too. I’m working on book 9 now and 10, 11, 12 have all dropped in to place in outline.
Oddly enough, I’ve been thinking about taking Nick abroad as part of an investigation at some point. Somewhere a bit unusual, I thought. Who knows, maybe Tasmania?
With very best wishes and thank you again for getting in touch.
Damien
Huge fan of your work. Am an avid fan of crime fiction and Nick and Jane have really captured my imagination. Am eagerly awaiting book 9.
Gillian
Thank you, Gillian! Glad you enjoyed the books 🙂
Number 9 is on the way…
With best wishes,
Damien
I just finished Dead Lock. Loved it. Many twists and turns. I can’t wait for the next DI Nick Dixon adventure. Many thanks.
Thank you, Alice! Most kind 🙂
With best wishes,
Damien
Hi
I purchased your first book on a bit of a whim. I took a punt on it because i generally enjoy a good “cop” story. Now i am hooked and halfway through the second one!
I love that it’s set in Somerset. As a child, I holidayed every year in Sandy Glades Holiday park (now a John Fowler park) on the Coast Rd in Berrow. That whole area was my holiday “stomping ground” and love seeing all these places mentioned.
Well done, i will definatly continue reading. The plot is great, i love the characters and each location is a a trip down memory lane 🙂
Thank you, Lucy! I’m glad you’re enjoying them 🙂
Delighted they’re bringing back some happy memories too. It’s a great part of the world…
With best wishes,
Damien
Dear Nick – having been given a Kindle as a gift and being a fan of Rebus & Morse, I had been hunting for additional authors, though this would be a class act to follow. I had nearly given up having found book after book of such poorly written text and reliance upon weak dialog, however, just in time, I came across your first two ND novels and I applaud your command of English alongside your descriptive language – thank you. I thoroughly enjoyed the books (though they were devoured too quickly) and am now ready to dive into the series. Your plots, characters, sequences, events and dialog are all credible with no lazy or convenient advances to the story. Well done, you can hold your head up with dignity in the esteemed company of great crime-writers. Good luck with the Diamond Dagger 🙂
Thank you very much, Paul! High praise indeed 🙂
I do hope you enjoy the rest of the series.
With very best wishes and thank you for getting in touch.
Damien
Love the Dixon series and have read 5 with more to go. Ian almost 87 now but in another life a community nurse working in and around the levels but based in Ilminster. We also had a mobile home in Burton Bradstock. Nick Dixon has become quite a friend. Wish I had met him on my travels.m
Thank you for your kind comments, Maureen! I’m glad you’re enjoying the books 🙂
I’ve not taken Nick to Ilminster yet. Must see to it!
Lots more to come.
With best wishes,
Damien
All read √
All in order √
All enjoyed √
Shall I continue? Heads or tails?
Monty needs a friend in the new defender!
Roger, not the first time!!
That you, Roger!
Glad you enjoyed them 🙂
With best wishes,
Damien
Any chance of a tv series starring Nick Dixon?
Hi Yolan
I hope so! I’ve had a couple of TV producers kicking my tyres, but nothing is signed yet.
I have been finding out what a minefield it can be!
Have a look at the December 2017 update on my blog…
With best wishes,
Damien
Hi Damien,
I’ve just finished Heads or Tails – absolutely brilliant! I couldn’t put it down. Each book is more gripping than the last. I’ve been saving it so I’m closer to your next release but it’s still a few months away 🙁
Keep up the amazing work!!
Thank you, Jason! Most kind 🙂
Plenty more to come…
With best wishes,
Damien
I’d like to echo all the comments and say how much we are enjoying your books. I’ve just finished Heads or Tails and as ever loved it. (Encouraged by my wife with comments like “haven’t you finished that yet?! ” (perhaps I’ll buy 2 of the next book 😉 ) we are fortunate enough to live in Devon so are making a DI Dixon list of pubs to visit on days out. Pity WSM literary festival sold out but I’m sure you be appearing at other venues this year. Mick
Thank you, Mick! Most kind 🙂
I’m glad you enjoyed the books.
I’m hoping to do a ‘Meet the Author’ event (aka a talk!) at Burnham-on-Sea Library around the time of Dead Lock’s release in May, so perhaps see you there?
With best wishes and thanks again for getting in touch.
Damien
Hi Damien
I love crime thrillers based in the UK. Peter Robinson, Graham Hurley and as a lad John Creasey.
My wife bought me as the Crow Flies for Christmas and I have since bought the next six. I have just finished Head in the Sand, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I know the Holkham, Sheringham area so well and it was great to see the references in the book.
Please keep going as I will be through them all quite quickly as I cannot put them down.
A great read. Thank you
Thank you, John! I’m glad you are enjoying the books 🙂
It’s funny, but I said to my wife Christmas morning when we were driving down to her sister’s house, ‘I wonder if anyone’s opened a Nick Dixon this morning’. Now I know of one person at least!
I do hope you enjoy the rest of the series. Plenty more to come too.

Hi Damien,
I have just finished Heads or Tails; I only discovered the series earlier this year and I have enjoyed every one of them. They have absorbed me completely and given a great escape from daily life!!
I’m now trying to work out how to fill my time between now and May 😉
Keep writing, thank you so much

Hi Damien, just finished reading Heads or Tails. My wife and I have been racing our way through and really enjoyed reading them all. Any chance of a cameo appearance sometime? I am the vicar of Berrow Church!!! 😁
Hello Jonathan
Thank you for getting in touch and I’m glad you and your wife both enjoyed the books 🙂
The vicar of Berrow appeared in Head in the Sand, of course, and I seem to recall that I gave him the name of my local vicar. Sorry!
I do need a clergyman in book 9 though…
With very best wishes,
Damien
I am an avid reader of crime fiction. I discovered Nick Dixon a couple of weeks ago and have now read them all.
Love the style of writing and get completely immersed in the stories.

Hi Damien,
Just to let you know how much I’ve enjoyed the DI Dixon series, I’m nearly finished Heads or Tails and am looking forward to the next one. While I’m an Aussie, I have been to the UK several times, and spent a week in the Minehead area a few years ago, so I can relate to the locales in the books. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for your kind comments, Peter! I’m glad you enjoyed the books.
Plenty more to come 🙂
With best wishes,
Damien

It’s done and with my editor, Patricia! I’m hoping it’ll be out next May or thereabouts.
Getting going with number 9 now 🙂
With best wishes,
Damien.
Good day, Master Boyd!
I’ve recent discovered you and of course DI Nick Dixon and am enjoying Heads or Tails,..just finishing chapter seven. However, in reading more ‘about the book’, it’s come to my attention this is a series! I’m rather thrilled with this knowledge as not only have I discovered you as a writer (who’s style I Very much enjoy thus far) but I have the enviable gift of quite a few more books to read!!
I’m torn, however, do I stop where I am and start with the first book, or do I continue and finish this one before going back to number one. If you were me, what would you do please?
Excited and undecided and best regards,
Karenda
PS thank you and I very much look forward to reading all your books and am so very glad to have found another fantastic, talented author! Long may you write!
Hello Karenda,
Thank you for your kind comments and I’m glad you are enjoying Heads or Tails!
I think if you are planning to read all 7 in the series, then I would recommend stopping where you are and starting with As the Crow Flies, book 1, and reading the series in order. This is more so if you are only 7 chapters into Heads or Tails so far.
Each story is a ‘standalone’ but there are threads that run through the books and they are best read in order, I think. Not only that, but the first six in the series are on special offer this month 🙂
Either way, I do hope you enjoy them!
With best wishes and thanks again,
Damien
So excited just had email to say Heads or Tails has arrived in my Kindle. Have really enjoyed the first six book. Can’t wait to read it.
Thank you, Jess! I hope you enjoy it 🙂
With best wishes,
Damien
i read the comment from Barbara. 87! good for you. im just 83

Thank you, Fred! High praise indeed 🙂
I’m glad you’re enjoying them.
I’m happy to tell you I have no plans to stop! Heads or Tails, book 7, is out on 14 September and I should be finishing book 8 in the next few weeks too. Then it’s on to number 9, which is ready in synopsis.
Thanks again for your kind comments.
With best wishes,
Damien
Found your books 3 weeks ago now am short of sleep because I can’t stop till I’ve reached the end of each one. Have them all on my Kindle ,will start Death Sentence tonight then must wait until September for the next. Please Damien write faster., I am suffering withdraw, it is not often at 87 years old you find a great new author who keeps you mentally excited, thank you.
It’s my pleasure, Barbara, and I’m glad you are enjoying the books!
I’m working on book 8 at the moment and number 9 is ready in synopsis too. Lots more to come 🙂
Thanks again for getting in touch and apologies for the sleepless nights.
With very best wishes,
Damien
Dear Damien
As a retired Legal Secretary working in Criminal Defence I have now read all of your books, which have fascinated me. Being a horsy person I loved Kickback but your books go from strength to strength and I adore the twists and turns and red herrings. Nick’s thought process is surreal and his partnership with Jane is just great. I have now passed on the titles of your books, in the correct order!, to a close friend and she can’t wait to start reading them.
Can’t wait for Heads or Tails to come out, in the meantime I am re-reading everything over again to get my legal kick!!
Good luck with all your future books and carry on the great work.
King regards
Lee Skinner (Mrs)
Thank you, Lee! Most kind 🙂
I hope Heads or Tails is worth the wait!
With best wishes,
Damien
I found ‘As the Crow Flies’ by chance, I enjoyed it so much that I read the next 3 DI Nick Dixon novels over the following 10 days, a month later, Dead Level. Then a drought as I waited for publication of Death Sentence. I had read all available Donna Leon and Andrea Camilleri in chronological order, Donna being my favorite crime writer but now there is someone right up there with her, I just wish there were many more Damien Boyd crime novels. Many thanks Damien you have provided much enjoyable reading!
Thank you for your kind comments, James! High praise indeed 🙂
I’m glad you are enjoying the books. Lots more to come…
With best wishes,
Damien
Just finished Death sentence – Absolutely brilliant, just could not put it down. All the books have been getting better as the characters have developed. Cant wait for Heads or Tails!
Thank you, Graham! Most kind 🙂
I’m glad you enjoyed the books. Plenty more to come.
With best wishes,
Damien
Just a big thank you. Your books are well written and really easy to read, the plot is believable and your locations make it more factual for fiction. I duly wait for your next instalment and hope Nick never gets rid of the Landrover.
Thank you, Mark! Most kind 🙂
Glad you enjoyed the books and it’s funny you should mention the Land Rover 😉
With best wishes,
Damien
I’m really enjoying your books, just found them on Kindle Unlimited and have read the first 5 in the last couple of weeks. I love the characters, and of course Monty having had a staffie of my own. Looking forward to plenty more! Thank you
Thank you for your kind comments, Julie. Glad you enjoyed them!
Lots more to come 🙂
With kind regards,
Damien
I have really enjoyed the books and have a note n my diary to look out for number 7 in October. I love Monty. Thanks for hours of happy reading
My pleasure, Jane. Glad you enjoyed them!
Monty is the star of the show 🙂
Best wishes,
Damien
Hi Damien,
I have loved reading your books and will now have to wait patiently till October for the next book! My son is a waiter in the Red Cow pub in Brent Knoll which has made them an extra special read for me!
Please keep writing as I am quite attached to Nick, Jane and Monty!
Kind regarss
Katy Logan
Thank you for your kind comments, Katy. I’m glad you enjoyed the books!
Using real places is great fun, especially when it comes to the research 😉 I’ve always loved the Red Cow and regularly call in. It’s one of the many perks of the job!
Lots more books to come, fear not.
With best wishes,
Damien
I have only just discovered your Nick Dixon series. I started Book 1 last week and am now on to Book 6. You have been the cause of many “early mornings” to bed as I cannot put them down!!! I love the characters and your descriptions of the places. Well done. Can’t wait for Book 7.
Regards,
Jeanne
Sorry about that, Jeanne 🙂 Glad you enjoyed the books!
With best wishes,
Damien
Hey Damien,
Currently reading Dead Level on my night shift and I can’t put it down despite my eyes keep losing focus, I’m pushing through! Absolutely love the Nick Dixon story line! Started from the As the Crow Flies as a new years resolution to read more books and now I’m here; with Dead Silence on the way.
Gutted I’ve got to wait until October for your next one! I read your comment that you like to think you’ll get to about 20, I really hope this happens as I will read them until the bitter end and I’m sure there are a lot more who will join me.
Keep up the amazing writing!
Jason
Hi Jason
Thank you for your kind comments and I’m pleased to hear my books are helping with the night shifts!
Yes, lots more to come 🙂
With best wishes and thanks again.
Damien
Great books, couldn’t put them down. I’ve finished all 6 books and am awaiting books 7 and 8 soon! Some queries though, how many books do you plan to continue the series with and how do you gain the inspiration to do what you do?
Glad you enjoyed them, Victoria, and thank you for your kind comments!
I don’t have a specific number of books planned and regard the series as open ended, really. I expect the readers will tell me when they’ve had enough, but I like to think we will get to 20 or so before then. I’ve got lots of ideas.
Much of my inspiration comes from real life and there’s some element of truth in all of the books so far. I use real places too, so get a lot of inspiration from them; the pillbox at the start of Death Sentence, for example, and Swildon’s Hole, of course. Looking for locations is great fun too.
With best wishes, and thank you again for getting in touch.
Damien.
Great books, just finished reading number 6 – can’t put them down so eagerly awaiting numbers 7 and 8.
Thank you, Diane! Glad you enjoyed them 🙂
Book 7 – Heads or Tails – is due on 17th October, with book 8 the following Spring. Watch this space.
Thank you again for your kind comments.
Kind regards,
Damien
02.02.17 I have emmensely enjoyed all six of your books and look forward to
your new ones. I do now have more time to read (I’m 86 next month) so please the sooner the better for me.
Hello Phyllis
Thank you for getting in touch and I’m glad you enjoyed the books.
Lots more to come, I’m pleased to say. Book 7 is done and on the way, and I’m just starting number 8 too. So that should be Autumn this year and then Spring 2018.
Happy birthday for next month!
With very wishes,
Damien
I started reading the first book on the 27th of last month and have now finished book 6.
I could not put them down as you see,So please keep up the good work and I can’t wait for the next installment. Hopefully it won’t be to long..
Best wishes . Mike from Perth Australia . Ps keep up the excellent world of DI Nick Dixon
Thank you, Mike! I’m glad you enjoyed them 🙂
Just finishing up book 7 now so that should be out in the Autumn (Spring for you), say Oct/Nov time. Book 8 is ready in synopsis form too, so I’m aiming for that one in April or May 2018.
Plenty more to come!
With best wishes
Damien
Hi Danien. Just finishing your fourth book and have read the others in quick succession. I hope that you will be approached to make a TV series or films. When you consider the following, and spin offs, (Lewis and Endeavour) of the Morse series of books, I can’t believe that your series is not equally as engrossing, if not better. Please don’t stop.
Thank you, Mavis. Most kind!
I did have a TV producer sniffing around a couple of years ago. It certainly would be fun!
I do hope you enjoy the rest of the series. No plans to stop this end 🙂
With best wishes,
Damien
I am hooked and have all 6 on my kindle. Just finishing the 3rd book. I get on the train and am in London in what seems like minutes I’m so engrossed! I love the way the books follow on too. You are one of the best writers I have come across. Thank you very much.
High praise indeed, Janet, thank you!
I hope you enjoy the rest of the series too. I’m working on book 7 – Buried Alive – now and number 8 is ready in outline. Hopefully more train journeys to fly by 🙂
With best wishes,
Damien
Hi Damien
Love your books and have just downloaded book four.
Your books are true to the geography. I find that I need to keep going to google the place myself in the story – even though I live in the tropics in Far North Queensland in Cairns, Australia (where nobody leaves a dog in a car!)
The descriptions of the meals in the books are so accurate – I can actually google the menu and even see which seat the characters sat at.
Please keep writing, writing and writing… and if you get writers block call me…
Hello Andrew
Thank you for your kind comments and I’m glad you are enjoying the books!
I do get a few comments from readers about the time Monty spends in the car. Generally it’s people from the warmer parts of the world 🙂 I will need to watch it though, as the books move into the summer months. Book 7 is set in April. I do know though that my dogs would rather be out and about with me than shut up at home.
Google Earth is very useful for following the locations. And, yes, even the Zalshah menu is real. I had an argument with my editor who said I’d spelt biriani wrong and that it should be biryani. I referred her to the menu!
Working on book 7 now, with number 8 ready in outline…
With best wishes and thank you for getting in touch.
Damien.
These books were serendipity for me discovering them by chance via Amazon Kindle. I live in Shipham near Cheddar and walk my dog near the wreck and lighthouse at Berrow. These books are wonderful!! (Even if it makes my locality feel like living in Midsomer country-It’s a bit unnerving to think of thuggish Albanian gangsters just down the road!) the characters are developing nicely although DCI Lewis is a bit of an enigma- is he just constrained by desk duties or is he a hands on detective too? I need to seek out all the locations on my next dog walking weekend,…lucky Monty going everywhere with his owner!! I’m from Exeter, any chance of some settings down that way?
Hi Sue
You never know our paths may have crossed on the beach! Look out for a loud Westie 🙂
You make an interesting point about DCI Lewis. The rank of Detective Chief Inspector has largely been phased out in many forces over the years and where it does exist, it is a managerial role more often than not. So, you are spot on! Lewis is managing several CID teams and Nick’s is just one. From memory, there are four CID teams of 16 officers each at Express Park.
Nick did go to the RD&E in Head in the Sand, and Exeter Racecourse in Kickback. I live in Exeter these days, you see. And Torquay in Dead Level – I worked there for 10 years 😉
Small world!
With best wishes and thank you for your kind comments,
Damien
I have read all six books in the series and can’t wait for the seventh. As well as each one being a good story I particularly like the way the characters are developing as the books progress. I like the human touches – Nick’s diabetes and Jane’s adoption. I also like the backdrop/setting and even though I do not know the area well it is becoming both familiar and attractive. Keep the books coming – I am sure there is a lot of mileage in the series yet. Many thanks for the hours of enjoyment – so far! Jackie
Hello Jackie
It’s my pleasure and I’m glad you enjoyed them!
Yes, there are lots more to come. I’m working on Buried Alive now and number 8 is ready in outline too.
With best wishes,
Damien
Hi Damien,
I should start by saying I don’t read that many books, I’ll start reading then get bored half way through, let alone spend time writing on the author’s blog!
However, your Nick Dixon series has me gripped! Once I start reading I can’t put the book down (or Kindle rather).
I read part of the first one after a work colleague lent me his Kindle for a lunch hour, when I returned home I immediately purchased, then, all 5 of your books, now I have just finished reading the last one, Death Sentence, they just keep getting better!
I wanted to get to the end to see if I guessed right, but at the same time I was genuinely sad that it was the last one available at the moment in the series! Can you tell me please when number 7 is due for release?
I can’t make up my mind if it’s the style of writing, the sheer research and accuracy of the stories that make them so believable, or the familiarity of the locations (I live in Taunton), or all of these put together that make me impatient to read the next book, but whatever it is you have done a fantastic job!
What will happen after #7, will you continue writing in this series?
Hello Aaron
Thank you for getting in touch and for your kind comments. I’m glad you enjoyed the books.
I am working on book 7 now – Buried Alive – and it’s likely to be out this time next year. Book 8 (as yet untitled) is ready in outline too. As for the future, I’ll keep going until readers tell me they’ve had enough! DCI Banks has reached 23 books so far, so there’s the target 🙂
I love to use real places and get people from all over the world following on Google Earth. Much better, of course, if the places are as familiar to you as they are to me!
Thank you again for your kind comments.
With best wishes,
Damien
Hi Damien.
I bought the first four books based on the reviews. I’ve just finished As the Crow Flies and really enjoyed it, so I’m looking forward to the other books. I must admit that I picked the villain early on but was still engrossed in reading to see how it ended (and if I was right). This was a great effort for your first book.
Glad you enjoyed it, Dennis, and thank you for your kind comments. The villains get progressively more difficult to spot 🙂
Kind regards
Damien
I have just read Head In The Sand, after having read As The Crow Flies. Having done a lot of rock climbing I could relate to the story in As The Crow Flies and with my partners mother living in Magaret Crescent find the local areas in interests brought yo life. Will have to get book 3, so that I can find out what happens next.
Hello Peter
Thank you for getting in touch and I am glad you are enjoying the books.
Not the same house in Margaret Crescent? 🙂
With best wishes,
Damien
Hi Damien … oops, nearly called you Nick there
I read As the Crow Flies a couple of years ago on my kindle and really enjoyed it, but somehow never quite got around to reading any more about Nick and Jane, until now! We’ve just come back from a gorgeous holiday and I downloaded books 2 to 5 before I went! Fabulous! Loved them all, especially Kick Back, just like reading Dick Francis all over again! (Must add that I re-read book 1 in between books 2 and 3)
I’ve just pre-ordered book 6 on my kindle too, I shall have to wait ’til October, but that’s not long, is it? and book 7? Super! Please don’t stop there though!
Btw, I’m not a dog lover, but I DO like Monty!
Regards,
Carole
Hello Carole
Thank you for getting in touch and I’m glad you enjoyed the books. I hope they contributed to a great holiday!
Yes, book 7 – Buried Alive – is underway. No plans to stop there either 🙂
Kind regards
Damien
Dear Damien,
I am an avid reader. I enjoy Anne Perry, Jacqueline Winspear and Susan Elia MacNeal to name a few. But, I am so glad I found you! You are a great writer. I love the characters and the character development. The plots are believable, too. My only problem is that I read too fast! I’m ready for another book. Looking forward to it.
Hello Judith
Thank you for your kind comments and I’m glad you enjoyed the books!
Death Sentence is due out on 4 October and, in the meantime, did you see the short story on the homepage of my site? It was serialised in the newspapers and there’s a link to the first part. Hope you enjoy it.
With best wishes,
Damien
Hi Damien
Just read first four books in quick succession – really enjoyed them and eagerly awaiting arrival of next, Dead Level. Will Death Sentence be available in early August for my holidays.?
Enjoyed may ciders in the skittle alley in the Red Cow and later the odd pint of Flowers IPA when visiting my family in Brent Knoll. The Clarence and Queens in Burnham were favourite haunts that my cousin and I hung out at during a misspent youth!
Although been a true Yorkshire Man I have had many happy times in Brent Knoll over the last forty odd years and feel almost a “local” when reading. Keep the books coming.
Kind regards
Richard
Thank you, Richard. Most kind!
I’m afraid Death Sentence is due out on 4th October, so not in time for your holiday, sadly. I hope you have a nice time anyway 🙂
Lovely spot, Brent Knoll. I should imagine our paths crossed in the Clarence and/or the Queens at some point too.
Yes, keeping them coming. Underway with book 7 now.
With best wishes,
Damien
Surely nick Dixon will make for great television series or feature length tv film , the books are a cracking read.
I had a TV producer sniffing around in 2014, Stephen, so who knows? It certainly would be great fun.
Glad you enjoyed the books!
Best wishes,
Damien
I’ve read the five DI Nick Dixon books so far, in order and over about four weeks so have been able to really immerse myself in the characters and plots – sincere congratulations on the series. I am particularly interested in the development of your writing over the five books…the first two were good but neither Nick nor Jane’s dialogue flowed naturally and the plot was often advanced rather awkwardly. Then Kickback really moved things along in all departments and Swansong saw Nick and Jane talking like real people, and the plot was made more believable than for most of the current authors’ craze for serial killers. Then Dead Level – by far your best book yet on several levels, particularly dialogue and plot exposition which both far exceed the earlier books in writing style and confidence. The plot involves politics, money and big business, which could have been clichéd but you’ve handled them very well against the constant background of the very real floods that took place last year. Can’t wait for the next books, delighted that you plan to keep Nick and Jane (and Monty who I can’t stand) going into the future.
Thank you for your kind comments, Richard. I’m glad you enjoyed the books.
The first three books were self published originally, the first time I worked with an editor being Swansong. I learnt so much from that process, which has probably come out in Dead Level. Hopefully, Death Sentence will be better still!
I’m sorry to hear you don’t like Monty! I can honestly say that most people seem to love him 🙂
With best wishes and thank you again for getting in touch.
Damien
I’ve just finished “Dead Level” and I think it is your best yet. All the main characters evolving but not getting in the way of the plot. Keep it up, and looking forward to the next one
Thank you, Will. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
The next one – Death Sentence – is on the way 🙂
Kind regards
Damien
Just finished Dead Level and enjoyed it thoroughly as with the other four. Can’t wait for Death Sentence, if it’s even half as good as the others it will be brilliant! Roll on October – will have to find something else to read in the meantime!
Thank you, Maria, most kind!
Did you spot the link to the short story on the homepage?
Glad you enjoyed the books.
Kind regards,
Damien
I’ve never been to any of the places in your books but it doesn’t matter – I love them. I enjoy the characters and how they develop. From the little quirks to the full out crazys, these are fun and such an enjoyable read. And of course, the who-don-it aspect keeps you turning page after page (well, I don’t turn pages since I read on my Kindle, but you get it 🙂
thanks for the great work, and please, please keep it up!
Thank you for getting in touch and I’m glad you enjoyed them, Cathy.
Just getting going on book 7 now and number 6 – Death Sentence – is out on 4 October, fingers crossed!
With best wishes,
Damien
Having spent a week in Minehead on our last visit to the UK I am reasonably familiar with the locations your novels are set in, which makes them even more enjoyable. I have thoroughly enjoyed the first four, and have already purchased the fifth. I am looking forward to further books in the series so keep up the good work.
Thank you, Peter! Most kind.
Book 6 – Death Sentence – is in production and should be out in the autumn. I’m just getting going on book 7 now. Plenty more to come 🙂
With best wishes
Damien

The next one – Death Sentence – is on the way. Watch this space 🙂

Damien
Swansong -excellent. I could not put it down.
Thank you, Patrick! Glad you enjoyed it.
Kind regards,
Damien
I have just started your first book as the crow flies. I am delighted to have found another author to add to my list. I’m not keen on Mr Archers books and would certainly put your book in a higher category than him. I can’t wait to next the next books in the series.
Thank you very much, Sharon! High praise indeed 🙂
I hope you enjoy the others books too.
With best wishes,
Damien
Having read Forsyth, Archer and similar type authors that make it difficult to put down the book, I have to say that you have the same knack in compelling fiction, backed up by necessary and convincing research. I have only read Kickback so far and parallels with the best Dick Francis books clearly came to mind. I look forward to books 1, 2, 4 and so on. Hoping that in due course you will release a collection of short stories because I am sure you will also succeed in this area.
High praise indeed, Nick, thank you very much!
I hope you enjoy the other books as much as Kickback.
I have done only one short story so far. It was serialised in the newspapers in Somerset. Have you seen it? If not, there’s a link to the first episode on the homepage.
With kind regards
Damien
Hi Damien, I have just read all four DI Dixon books on Kindle. I live in Australia and don’t recognize the places you write about but I have enjoyed the journey. Hurry up with the next two.
Regards KP
Hello KP and thank you for getting in touch!
I keep talking about taking Nick to Australia 🙂 Used to live there myself but then I was only two years old at the time. We have a family photo of my father carrying me on the deck of a boat in Sydney Harbour and the Opera House is in the background, half built and covered in scaffolding!
Glad you enjoyed the books. Dead Level is on the way and Death Sentence is taking shape nicely.
Kind regards,
Damien
Hello Nick,
Being an avid reader I have read all of Roy Grace, Heckingberg,Banks series etc etc and have just come across the DI Nick Dixon books and am just about to start As the crow flies, hope they are as good as the reviews I have read

Hello Damien,
As a Peter James, Peter Robinson and Felix Francis follower I am always on the lookout for new authors to add to my collection.
I have just come across your books and character DI Nick Dixon and have read excerts from all four books in the series. Needless to say these have now been added to my Xmas shopping list.
Really looking forward to reading these and Dead Level next year.
Kind regards.
Glenn Gilroy
Hello Glenn
I hope you enjoy them when the time comes!
With kind regards
Damien
Have never posted before in my life but felt compelled to do so.
Absolutely fantastic and riveting read. Just read all 4 books in under a week (another first)
Thankfully had the joy of not having to wait for each of these 4…. But how will I now get to March 16 ?
Another big Irish fan. Have to spread the word !
Gerry
Thank you very much, Gerry! I’m glad you enjoyed them 🙂
Did you spot the free short story? There’s a link on the homepage.
Working on book 6 now!
With best wishes,
Damien
Hi Damien
Just wanted to tell you that I think your little series is absolutely brilliant. Ive read them back to back in just a couple weeks. I. from Bridgwater and have really enjoyed the setting of the local area, another thing ive liked is your almost non exsistant charicter description of Nick. I have no idea what he looks like and for once i really like that. Was that intentional or did it just turn out that way?
keep up the great work!
All the best. Barnaby.
Hello Barnaby
Thank you for your kind comments and I’m glad you enjoyed the books.
Yes, leaving Dixon’s appearance to the reader’s imagination was quite deliberate. I occasionally describe what he is wearing when it’s relevant but otherwise it is for the reader to decide what he looks like. We get to know a lot about his character as the books progress, but each reader will, I hope, build their own picture of what he looks like.
I don’t want to ruin that for them!
I hope that makes sense.
With kind regards and thanks again for getting in touch.
Damien

Hello Magda

Book 5 – Dead Level – is now ‘in production’, as they say in the publishing business, and will be out in March. Did you spot the short story? It was serialised in the Somerset newspapers and there’s a link to the first episode on the homepage.
With kind regards,
Damien.
Hi Damien
Just read all four books while on holiday in Portugal really enjoyed the suspense now looking forward to number 5.
Kind regards
Simon
It’s on the way, Simon.
Portugal is lovely. I’ve not been since 2001. Very envious! Hope you had a nice time.
Kind regards,
Damien.
I’ve read all four books and have really enjoyed them, difficult to put them down. I lived in Burnham from the age of eight until I moved to Bristol in the 1970’s and my mother (in her late 80’s) still lives in the family home just off the Berrow Road near the lighthouses. We regularly have lunch in the Red Cow and Mum reckons she knows which cottage Nick Dixon lives in! She enjoys your books very much. Looking forward to book 5, hope it will be out soon. Many thanks.
Hello Mary and thank you for your kind comments! I’m glad you and your Mum have enjoyed the books.
I often drop into the Red Cow too, for a bit of research, you understand!
Book 5 – Dead Level – is on the way and I had hoped it would be out before Christmas, but it’s starting to look like we may be too late for that now. Watch this space 🙂
Kind regards
Damien
Just finished reading Swansong. Absolutely brilliant.
Can’t wait for the next one.
Thank you very much, Bob. Glad you enjoyed it!
Book 5 is on the way…
Kind regards
Damien
Hello Damien, it’s July 10th 2015′ I’m on holiday in Cyprus and for the last 3 days have read all 4 of your books. All I can say is wow. I’m at a loss now what to do for the next 10 days. Cannt wait for the next one. Thanks.
Hello Richard
Thank you for your kind comments and I’m glad you enjoyed the books.
I’ve finished book 5 and will shortly be starting on number 6 too. I spent a cold but fun day caving down Swildon’s Hole in the Mendips last Saturday doing a bit of research. Hope you had a nice day by the pool!
Enjoy the rest of your holiday 🙂
Kind regards,
Damien.
Can’t wait to read your 4th book….just downloaded it. Read previous 3 books and couldn’t put them down. Reading the books you are there in all the places looking for clues and putting them together , always a twist at the end. Keep writing. Need more publicity in the local areas ….I’m doing my bit – spreading the word!!!!!! Brilliant
Thank you, Helen!
Just this minute finished book 5 – Dead Level – too 🙂
I hope you enjoy Swansong.
Kind regards and thank you for your kind comments.
Damien
Dear Damien
Now reading number three, Kickback. Love the series! As I live in Bridgwater, I love the scenes as I know the areas you feature so well, I find it hard to separate fact from fiction!
I now expect to find a head on Berrow golf course!!!
Please keep the books coming…..and thank you.
Kind regards, Eleanor.
Thank you, Eleanor. Most kind!
Yes, I’ll keep them coming 🙂 Just finishing book 5 – Dead Level – now, then it’s onto number 6, as yet untitled but ready in synopsis.
I get a lot of complaints from members at Burnham & Berrow 🙂
Kind regards,
Damien
Thanks for your reply. Incidentally a good friend of mine, Amy is a member of the Ostler family that have run the Red Cow in Brent Knoll for years, (in real-life!!…)
Lol
Small world.!
All the best, Eleanor

Brean Down is a lovely spot, Richard. I first went there in 1975…showing my age now!
It features heavily in Book 5 – Dead Level. I am hoping to finish that one next month, the aim being to have it released before Christmas. Fingers crossed.
I hope you enjoy Kickback and Swansong and thank you very much for your kind comments.
With best wishes,
Damien.
Reading Kickback and i feel like Dick Francis is alive and writing again. Thank you!
High praise indeed, Carol. Thank you very much! I’m so glad you are enjoying it.

Hi Damien. Just finished Swansong last night, now have withdrawal symptoms Next book out soon I hope.
Best wishes. Betty
Hello Betty
Thank you very much for getting in touch and for your kind comments! I’m glad you enjoyed the books.
There is a short story, if you haven’t seen it. It was serialised in the Mid-Somerset Gazette and there’s a link to the first episode on the homepage. There’s then a link to the next bit etc etc. Hope you enjoy that too.
Book 5 – Dead Level – should be finished by the end of next month and I’m hoping it will be out before Christmas. Book 6 is ready in outline too. Going caving in the name of research for that one…
With best wishes,
Damien
Can’t seem to find the link – Is this still available?
Love the books.
Kim
Thank you, Kim!
I’m afraid the short story – I’m guessing that’s what you are asking about – is no longer available. I’m hoping to re-write it and give it away at some point. It needs updating, but the next book keeps getting in the way 🙂
With best wishes,
Damien
I have just discovered your books on my Kindle, have read them all and am looking forward to the next one…Sincerely Jean Wynn
Thank you very much, Jean!
Swansong is due on 7th April and I hope you enjoy it 🙂 I’m working on book 5 now too – Dead Level.
Did you spot the free short story? There’s a link to the first part on the homepage.
Kind regards
Damien
Hi
Damien your name came up on my kindle had a look on amazon and there is only one of your books available in paperback we live me wellington have tried all the local bookshops and none of them carry your books were can we buy them really like the sound of them look forward to reading thank you good luck.with.the new release and further books
Hi there and thank you for getting in touch and for your kind comments!
All of the books are or should be available in paperback on Amazon so it may just have been a glitch when you happened to look? My only retail outlet so far has been Hurleys in Burnham-on-Sea but I’m not sure whether they have any in stock at the moment,I’m afraid.
Perhaps try Amazon again?
With kind regards,
Damien
As the others before me I have really enjoyed all three books and am waiting (im)patiently for the fourth. I love the character development and wonder how things will change if Nick and Jane have to separate in the work place.
Hello Ann
Thank you for your comment and I am glad you enjoyed the books.
You raise an interesting point and it’s a shame couples can’t work together in the real world. At the moment I’m finding a way around it one book at a time. Book 4 is done and I am just getting under way with book 5 now. I can say that I have no plans to end their relationship so will have to keep finding plausible ways around the issue!
Kind regards,
Damien.
Hi Damien, thanks for some great holiday reading. I have managed to read the first three books in a few days, really captivating stuff. Looking forward to the fourth book in the series.
Probably not a question you want to answer, but do you have a projection of how long Nick and Jane will be solving murders? Are they with us for the long haul or have you already formulated the ending?
Steve.
Thank you for your kind comments, Steve.
I certainly have no plans to bring Nick and Jane’s partnership to an end at this stage and very much hope there will be many more books and short stories to come. I’m working on the basis that the readers will tell me when the time has come to end the series 🙂
Am working on book 5 now and books 6 and 7 are outlined already as well.
Kind regards,
Damien
Hi Damien
I have just read all three of The DI Nick Dixon Crime Series purchased from Amazon ES.
Wow what a well written, brilliant, captivating, compelling series and I cannot wait for Swansong to be released onto Amazon ES.
All praise to you and thank you for the high drama.
Cheers Linda
Thank you, Linda!
Hello Damien ,
Having now read books1-3 I am looking forward to Swansong, can you estimate when it will be released please
Regards Terry Groves
Hello Terry
There’s some news on that in my latest blog post or on Facebook…see the sidebar for details. There’s going to be a delay I’m afraid. I have signed a publishing deal, so it’s looking like Spring next year now. Sorry!
Glad you liked the books 🙂
Kind regards
Damien.
